Artist Statement
My work draws inspiration from nature and the visual rhythms of everyday life. Whether creating impressionistic landscapes or abstract compositions, the vibrant colors I encounter — in sunsets, autumn leaves, golden hills, alpine lakes or even the pulsating lights of a concert — serve as a catalyst for my imagination.

I use a wide variety of handmade, iridescent, and translucent papers, layering them to create textures and color interactions that are often unexpected. My process is a balance between meticulous intent and spontaneous gesture; each piece evolves over multiple sessions as layers of fiber and glue transform the canvas.

Because of the way these materials bleed and blend, the final result is is often surprising, shaped by the interplay of color, texture, and chance.

Ultimately, I strive to create collages that evoke emotion and reward sustained viewing, revealing new details over time.

Bio
Dave Popino graduated with a degree in graphic design from the Rochester Institute of Technology, in New York. He worked full-time for over thirty years as an advertising art director in San Francisco, CA, but has since traded his computer mouse for a foam brush full of Mod Podge®. He works out of his studio in Richmond, CA, and is grateful he'll never have to make the logo bigger.
